Press Release: NORML

For immediate release:

Dakta Green is back in custody in a move that smacks of police harassment NORML says.

Failing to answer the door to police at 5.30 in the morning (June 27) resulted in Dakta Green being arrested for breach of bail.

Green’s partner is also stuck in prison after a judge failed to turn up to court to hear her bail application Tuesday.

NORML vice-president Abe Gray said police were using bail condition to harass Green, who is a NORML board member.

“This whole operation is politically motivated and aimed at undermining the cannabis legalisation movement,” Gray said.

“Dakta Green has only been released from jail for less than two weeks and already the Daktory has been raided 3 days in a row.”

“They are trying to suppress dissent towards the prohibition-law.”

The presence of the Inspector at a cannabis bust is unprecedented and indicates that this operation has has been directed from high up in the police hierarchy.

However police are targeting non-violent cannabis activists at a time when they are meant to be running a tight fiscal budget.

“Police commissioner Peter Marshall should come clean to the New Zealand taxpayers about how much this ongoing police operation involving over 30 officers is costing us,” Gray said.

“This operation is tying up police resources that could be fighting real crime.”
